Lightspeed Classic 911 is the Porsche Restomod Singer Fears Most

You know what really grinds my gears? Those that want the perfect air-cooled Porsche 911 have to spend at least $350,000 on a restomod from Singeror $500,000 on one with all the bells and whistles. But if you want the whole nine yards without having to pay alot, we recommend the Lightspeed Classic 911.

From our point of view, what Lightspeed designed here can be summed up as brass knuckles snuggly fitted into a pair of velvet gloves. The 911 silhouette resembles that of the Singer, but come on now – those beautiful proportions have been around for more than half a century and still are as instantly recognizable with the soon-to-be-facelifted 991.

First thing's first – see the video attached below? Press play and witness racing driver Tim Schrick hoon the bejesus out of those rear tires. Such an amazing machine, light on its feet like a ballerina, isn't it? That's what a 980-kilogram (2,160 lbs) machine propelled by an arse-mounted 360 horsepower boxer engine can do in the right hands, with the right amount of throttle and steering lock.

The 17-inch wheels are nice and all, but admire the car from the rear. Yep, it's nearly as wide as a 930 Turbo. Even though it's hard to believe, the Lightspeed is true to its name, partially thanks to the carbon fiber hood, front, and rear fenders. The engine is another highlight, being a 964 RS plant boasting titanium bits and bobs and a 7,500 rpm redline for that trademark Porsche howl.

The beauty in its engineering can be also seen in the 993 RS injector holder assembly, comprising of six injectors lifted from the 996 and adapted for the 993's ECU. The mechanical goodies list ends with a six-speed manual taken from a 996 Turbo and mated to a 997 GT3 RS' clutch. The superb cable-driven CAE milled aluminum shifter makes our petrolhead senses tingle with excitement.

As an added bonus, the Lightspeed Classic 911 can be equipped with a brake force distribution knob. Take that, Singer! Oh, nearly forgot – pricing starts from about €100,000 and a fully-kitted Lightspeed Classic 911 is €160,000. That'll be $180,000 in the U. S. of A., which is better value than the Porsche 911 Turbo S.

    Me encanta
